Brampton Abbotts is mentioned in Domesday Book under the name "Bruntune" and was given to Abbot Peter of Gloucester. Varios other spelling occur over succeeding centuries but it is not known when or why the extra "t" was added. The church dates from c1100 but of course has been added to and modified many times since.
The Parish was separated from Ross in 1672 to become an independent living. It was re-united with Ross in the 1970s, and is now part of the Ross Team with one of the Team Vicars living in the Rectory.
