Since time immemorial, there has been a church here and evidence shows that Christianity has flourished for many hundreds of years in this area.
The parish of Bridstow lies on the west bank of the River Wye and the church itself is approximately one and a half miles from Ross. It is part of the Ross Team Ministry, in the Ross and Archenfield rural deanery and the archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford. The Cathedral itself is fourteen miles from here.
St Bridget, after whom our village and our church are named, was the daughter of an Irish Chieftain in the 5th Century. She became a nun whose desire was to relieve the misery and hardship of the poor. Her feast day, the date of her death, is February 1st.
St Bridget's Blessing
May Bridget bless the house where in you dwell,
Bless every fireside, every wall and door.
Bless every heart that beats beneath its roof,
Bless every hand that toils to bring it joy.
Bless every foot that walks its portals through,
May Bridget bless the house that shelters you.
