The Parish of Linton includes the village of Linton, part of the village of Bromsash, east of the B4222, and that part of the village of Gorsley within the Herefordshire County Boundary.

The Church, a Grade 1 Listed Building, stands on the ridge, which forms the watershed between the Severn Valley to the east and the Wye valley to the west. It has marked the centre of the village, a designated Conservation area, from very early times and, with its tall spire, it is a landmark from far around.

On the entry to the Church stands an old yew tree, which was certified as being more than 2,000 years old; its berries were much in demand prior to the Millennium so that churches could plant in their churchyards saplings that derived from a tree alive at the time of Christ.

If Linton and its church have any claim to fame, it might be the Palin Connection . [See link on the left].

The Reverend Edward Palin, great-grandfather of Michael Palin, was Rector of St Mary's Linton for 38 years at the latter end of the 19 th Century. The circumstances of his appointment to the benefice were quite extraordinary and he made a huge contribution to the Church and Village.
