The parishes of Ross and Walford are situated in the southern part of Herefordshire in the Diocese of Hereford and consist of the town of Ross-on-Wye and the parish of Walford.
Ross-on-Wye is a well-established market town with a population of approximately 10,000. It serves the area with shops, library, theatre, community centre and banks and has regular bus services to Hereford and Gloucester (both about 16 miles away) and daily coach services to London, Birmingham and Cardiff. As well as the parish church there are churches of other denominations including Roman Catholic, Baptist, Methodist/United Reformed and Quakers. Churches Together work in the town and join forces on special occasions.
The rural Parish of Walford is situated in the Wye Valley, which is a designated area of outstanding beauty, bordering the River Wye, attracting many visitors each year. The population is approximately 900 people of varying ages, living in clusters of houses and more scattered dwellings, both old and new. Facilities include a primary school, a youth hut, village hall, an inn with restaurant, a guest house, and bed & breakfast accommodations. There are local businesses providing employment, with the main industry being farming. As it is an excellent commuting area, many people travel distances to work.
